Here's the news.

The new site ‘design’

(oh jeez looking at this post in the main page sure is discouraging)

So yeah as you might notice things are looking a little different. Basically 5 seconds after I placed the last post talking about how I dislike the old theme I started working on making it more user friendly. One of the things I wanted was that the news section on the site actually was interesting to read and having that placed about 2 pages down after a full episode post wasn’t helping. Now originally that was not a mayor concern as the episode posts did not include any pictures, like it was with the old dinercast and is now, so the news section was pretty much there without scrolling. As that is no longer the case I wanted to make a 3 column interface, the first would be the last episode post the second a few news items and the third the sidebar. Now as you can see the sidebar’s gone, the reason for this is that it basically sums up every page you’re on in a limited way. If you look at the site’s episode and news section you will see that the archive is always present, so why have a sidebar that’s telling you what the last 3 items are?

Another function the sidebar had was showing links to the RSS feeds and our Twitter and showing the last posts Tim and me made on our own blogs. Well the RSS feeds are now shown in the menu above, as you can also see the header’s gone but more on that later, the twitter link’s gone because I don’t give a shit. The external blog feed I might just include into the news section some time.

You might be wondering where the search function has gone off to. Well it’s gone because we don’t need it yet, there are like 4 episodes online and if you can’t make out the subjects by the tags(new) in the archive then just best of luck to you. The search function will be included in the next upgrade.

So what’s up with the news paper look? -Well it’s just that I have no idea what I was doing whilst making this theme. I just punched the shit out the old theme making it look like this and making it XHTML strict after which I kinda liked the look. But the theme does not really fit the site that well, it doesn’t look like it has something to do with game-design neither with the title. So this is just another step into getting it the way I want. This will be the site design for a little while, I’ll just be working on the new one on the side because I think we can all agree we just need to put out more shows. Speaking of which, most probably this afternoon there will be a recording so expect a new show some time soon!

One last thing, comments are now added live so you don’t leave the page. So if you’re using the web player you can keep listening, HOWEVER it does not update live so you won’t see messages placed by others. I might look into that some time, but come on it’s not like we need that right now. The rest of the site is also optimized to be faster, at least it was on the offline version I ran so we’ll have to see.

Also I’d like your feedback on the site, what do you like, what do you hate, what could be better, etcetter.  The new comment form is open for business.

Laters,
-Ralph
